Let's start your Lean Six Sigma journey!
Learners have to go through 6 phases one after another to become a full-fledged problem solving professional and then can become a mentor in this forum also. The stages are aligned with the step by step learning methodologies as per the Lean Six Sigma journey. More or less we have aligned it after clubbing together with a curriculum from the top institutes. However, you can use the framework given here in Mejora.
Across your journey, our objective is not to teach you “Theory of Lean Six Sigma” but teach you to “How to solve problems using Lean Six Sigma”. Though DMAIC is the flow, in case of a problem-solving methodology we would divide DMAIC into further areas to solve the problems.
Lean Six Sigma Road Map
Problem Identification & Prioritization
- What is the problem/Problems you have to solve
- If more than one, you have to prioritize the problems to start with one project
Define
- Which problem you intend to solve, Identify Outputs that you want to improve in order to solve the problem
- Create project charter highlighting objective, scope and financial impact of the improvement financial impact
- Create process overview map and define the scope
Measure
- How accurate is your current measurement system?
- Assess the reliability of the current measurement system-Measurement System Analysis
- Collect data for evaluation of current performance
- Baseline performance and determine the target for Y measure
Analyze
- Identify potential Xs affecting Output
- Collect and analyze data to validate/verify whether the potential Xs are critical
- Check whether the identified critical Xs are sufficient to drive improvement in Y measure
Improve
- Develop and evaluate improvement alternatives
- Select the most optimum solution and carry out improvement for vital
- Verify if Y (output) is improving
Control
- Select control subjects, develop and execute control plan
- take action to sustain the improved results
The length & Breadth of this methodology remains the same, however, the more you try to solve complex problems you will find the depth increasing.
Hence your learning pattern also should be to start with the fundamental concepts, tools and understand it with less complexity. As you move higher try to solve more complex problems with more tools like the green belt and black belt level.
